We are delighted to have been successful in an application to the Community Foundation Dickon Trust Fund to market and develop our Dementia Carer Support Group. During 2016 the group have benefited from the skills and expertise of A Time 2 Talk, a counselling service for mature adults experiencing life changing events such as a dementia diagnosis. Topics for these monthly sessions have included topics including Diagnosis, Loneliness, and Fears and Anxieties. This grant will allow us to continue with this partnership well into 2017. As well as A Time 2 Talk we will be able to welcome new speakers to the sessions to give much needed advice on a range of topics identified by the group members themselves. The grant will allow us to advertise these sessions in a way we have not been able to before. This will allow us to reach more people who need our support and the support of others in the same position. The sharing of experiences is one of the most valuable sources of support available, and the friendships that develop create a support network that extends far beyond the group sessions. Our thanks go to both the Community Foundation and the Trustees of the Dickon Trust for giving us this opportunity to make a difference.
